Evening

Evening Prayer - Closing the Day

Beginning

In the name of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

     -or-

In the name of God: Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Amen.

Evening’s Promise: Psalm 4:6-8

"Let your face smile on us, Lord.

You have given me greater joy

than those who have abundant harvests

   of grain and new wine.

In peace I will lie down and sleep,

for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe."

A Prayer of Jericho (Luke 18:41-43)

   O Lord, let me see.

Open my eyes to see you!

   I would follow you

   with eyes wide open!

An Artist's Prayer (Psalm 27:4)

   Lord, let me in,

   closer to your life,

   closer to your beauty.

Your Heart & Mind:

Name the parts of the day for which you are grateful.
Are there needs or anxieties you would give over to God?

Who would you ask God to bless this night?

Evening’s Second Promise: Psalm 127:1-2

"Unless the Lord builds a house,

the work of the builders is wasted.

Unless the Lord protects a city,

guarding it with sentries will do no good.

It is useless for you to work so hard

from early morning until late at night,

   anxiously working for food to eat;

for God gives rest to his loved ones."

The Prayer of the Apostles (Luke 17:5)

   O Christ, increase our faith!

Breathe deeply until you are still:
   Amen.

     - or -

   Let it be.
