Evening in Eastertide

Evening Prayer - Gratitude & Landing

At the end of the day
we come back to a
moment of quiet
and contemplation.

Beginning

In the name of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

     -or-

In the name of God: Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Amen.

Our opening scripture readings and prayers
help us settle down
our busy hearts & minds.

Evening’s Promise: Psalm 4:6-8

"Let your face smile on us, Lord.

You have given me greater joy

than those who have abundant harvests

   of grain and new wine.

In peace I will lie down and sleep,

for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe."

Prayers for Resting (Phil. 18:41-43)

Here Lord, are the things weighing me down...

Let God know what has stressed you today,
and ask God to take all that and hold it
while you rest.

Here Lord, are my heart and mind,
Wrap them in your peace and strength.

Tell God about your hopes for tomorrow,
and ask God to wake you in readiness.

We finish our prayers
reminded of God's care
for us in the night
and a final ask
for God's help.

Evening’s Second Promise: Psalm 127:1-2

"Unless the Lord builds a house,

the work of the builders is wasted.

Unless the Lord protects a city,

guarding it with sentries will do no good.

It is useless for you to work so hard

from early morning until late at night,

   anxiously working for food to eat;

for God gives rest to his loved ones."

A Disciple's Prayer (Luke 17:5)

   Risen Christ, increase my faith!

Breathe deeply until you are still:
   Amen.

     - or -

   Let it be.
