Evening in Lent

Evening Prayer in Lent

Beginning

In the name of God:

Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

     -or-

In the name of God:

Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Amen.

Evening’s Promise

from Psalm 4:6-8

"Let your face smile on us, Lord.

You have given me greater joy

than those who have abundant harvests

of grain and new wine.

In peace I will lie down and sleep,

for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe."

Praying for Rest

based on Psalm 42:1-8

O God, this day is done.

Help me to close it well,

carrying no anxiety or fear

into the hours of sleep.

Be with me and may my heart

ever be joined to your Spirit.

I give to you the injuries

which I sustained in the day.

I give to you the guilt

of the injuries I caused.

May the rest of this night

prepare me to do better.

Meet me in the morning

and be with me.

Praying for Sight

based on Luke 18:41-43

Open my eyes to see you!

I would follow you, Lord,

with eyes wide open!

I want to make you happy

in all that I say and do.

Praying for Stillness

based on Psalm 46:10

O God, hold onto me

and help me be still.

I will breathe deeply

and simply be here with you.

Thank you. I'm trying my best.

Your Heart & Mind:

What are the needs and

anxieties you need

to give over to God?

Who would you ask God

to bless this night?

Evening’s Second Promise

from Psalm 127:1-2

"Unless the Lord builds a house,

the work of the builders is wasted.

Unless the Lord protects a city,

guarding it with sentries will do no good.

It is useless for you to work so hard

from early morning until late at night,

anxiously working for food to eat;

for God gives rest to his loved ones."

Praying like the Disciples

in Luke 17:5

O Christ, increase my faith!

Breathe deeply until you are still:
   Amen.

     - or -

   Let it be.
