Morning in Lent
Morning Prayer in Lent
Getting started:
In the name of God:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
-or-
In the name of God:
Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer. Amen.
Morning Declaration
based on Psalm 1
I give myself and this day
to the intention of directing
my steps onto God's path
of honesty, kindness
and serving my neighbor.
Be my strength, O God,
and my hope in everything
this day may throw at me.
And I will be grateful.
A Humble Prayer of Need
based on Luke 18:13
God be merciful and help me,
because I'm not all I should be.
Praying Like Jesus
based on Matthew 6:9-13
God of heaven and earth
and all that is:
I honor you and
I commit myself to you.
I will follow your Way
in all times and places,
and I'm content
with what you bring me today.
I'm only human
and I need your help
to share with others
the grace I need from you.
Thank you,
for being my strength
when I am weak,
and my wisdom
when I speak.
Thank you,
for the peace to go forward
and for always being with me.
Amen.
Praying Like Mary
based on Luke 1:38
Here I am, trusting in God;
I want God’s will to be done in me.
Your Heart & Mind:
Take a moment to reflect on
these prayers and to ask for
God's help with the day.
A Prayer of Hope & Change
based on Jeremiah 17:7-8
Life can sometimes be
so good and so difficult.
God, I ask that you help me
to endure the storms
and to enjoy clear skies.
I choose you to be the soil
in which my roots go deep.
And all the goodness in my life
is a witness to your faithfulness.
Help me to slow myself down
and to find some of the quiet
I need to better hear you.
Help me to be still
and to be less anxious.
Hold onto me, I pray.
Second Morning Declaration
from Psalm 118:24-25
“This is the day the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Please, Lord, please save us.
Please, Lord, please give us success.”
Breathe deeply until you are still,
and finish:
Amen.
- or -
Let it be.
